Living and Working in the Far East: Singapore Telegraph Station

The film ‘Living and working in the far east: Singapore Telegraph station’ is part of the PK150 Connected Collections Project, produced by research interns Nadia and Jasmine, alongside a webpage: pk150singapore.wordpress.com. The webpage and film aim to study how telegraphy impacted the Far East in the colonial era.

Students Nadia and Jasmine wanted to explore Eastern Asia and Singapore in particular, because its diverse community was a good example. As a former British colony, it was once a melting pot, the Singapore telegraph cable connected Europe, India, Oceania islands and eastern Asia. Yet, the history of the telegraph station is less investigated, hence the project aims to provide a platform for people to access information about the Singapore Telegraph Station.

The film below highlights topics and finds that will be discussed on the website.
