Our ‘Planet PK Summer of Fun’ is here!
This summer we invite everyone to come and take part in our unique and playful activities at PK Porthcurno designed by our Learning Facilitators Alice Howard and Paul Tyreman.
Come and join in the family fun for free. You can explore our pop-up worlds including animal printing, playful messages, mini PK tours, or even see how far you can jump on Porthcurno Beach!
We are also looking for Planet PK Champion Members to come and join our new club!
Planet PK Pop-up Animal Printing
What do animal pawprints look like? Come and try out stamps of the animals from Porthcurno Valley and the PK Archive. Get messy while learning about different types of printing, from colourful ink and 3D stamps to handprints and lino prints – there really is something for all ages.
This activity will be open on Thursday 28 July and Thursday 25 August in the Clore Learning Space at PK Porthcurno, 13:00 – 15:00.
Planet PK Pop-up Animal Long Jump
Can you jump as far as a mouse or a deer? Try out our animal long jump and find out. Learn about the animals in Porthcurno Valley and champion Porthcurno’s Plastic-Free status by leaving only footprints in the sand on Porthcurno beach to receive your own wooden medal.
Meet us on Porthcurno beach on Thursday 4, 11, and 18 August between 13:00 – 15:00.
Planet PK Pop-up Playful Messages*
Come and enjoy playful, visual and noisy form of messages. There will be eco-friendly, extraordinary, giant bubbles that remind us of smoke signals. Also, try out our semaphore flags and ways to make some noise!
Make playful messages with us every Tuesday on the 26 July, and the 2, 9, 16, and 23 August in our gardens between 13:00 – 15:00. You will be able to find us next to Morgy the giant squid!
If you are ready to explore our museum a little further, you can find out how telegraphy impacted our environment by joining one of our Planet PK Pop-up Mini PK Tours for families on Wednesday 3, 10 and 17 August. Meet our Learning Facilitator Paul Tyreman the museum at 13:00.
Morgy the Giant Squid
He talked to me!’ Under 5-year-old visitor feedback.
All summer you can make friends with our giant squid Morgy. He likes to receive messages down his tentacles like a tin can phone. You can’t miss Morgy in our gardens for the summer and he is open to all to explore. What will you hear?
Don’t forget all through the summer we always have playful things to do at PK Porthcurno whilst visiting the museum. Pick up one of our Pigeon Pals trails from the front desk, crack a code in Lego, or go on a chalked hopscotch journey from PK to India! We also have our new Planet PK Nature Trail that will be available to pick up free from the front desk over the summer- what will you discover with your senses about the Valley?
Come and join the Planet PK Champions Club!
Our new Planet PK Champions club is for anyone with a passion for helping us to tackle Climate Change. Our club meets monthly in our Clore Learning Space and we have activities to do alongside finding out ways to look after the environment. The activities are designed for children aged 7- 12 years but are open to all to have a go. We will have new membership packs available this summer with lots of exciting goodies inside for you to take away! The next activities are:
• Eco Printing and Silly Putty – Make a vibrant leaf print while learning about the environmental impact of the material used to insulate telegraph cables under the sea. Discover how this material led to mass deforestation and cable faults while making some Silly Putty. Saturday 30th July, 10:30 – 12:00.
• Echoing Bats 🦇 – Make an origami bat and learn how bats find their way around using sound waves. During the activity, you will have a chance to visit our Airymouse exhibition in the Bunker. Saturday 13th August, 10:30 – 12:00.
Let’s have a great summer together – what will you choose to do?
