We have a brand new, exciting programme full of art and science-based summer workshops starting this July at PK Porthcurno:

Summer at PK: Make-a-zine

Explore the art of DIY publishing by creating your very own mini magazines using drawing, collage, and storytelling. Get hands-on, share ideas, and learn about communication in a playful and imaginative way, and even have your work displayed in the museum.

All materials are provided—just bring your creativity!

For ages 7 years and up. Meet artist Mae Voogd in our Clore Learning Space at PK.

Maximum 15 participants per workshop.


Workshop aimed at 7-16 year olds. Parental supervision advised for 7-10 year olds. Consent form for drop-offs available on arrival.

Summer at PK: Morse Code Masters

Build your own wooden Morse Code key to take home, complete a circuit, and even make your key buzz!

For ages 5 years and up. Meet Paul Tyreman in our Clore Learning Space at PK.

Maximum 20 participants per workshop.


Workshop aimed at 5-16 year olds. Parental supervision advised for 5-10 year olds. Consent form for drop-offs available on arrival.

Summer at PK: Puppet Lab

Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop exploring communication through puppetry led by puppet maker, Mae Voogd. Inspired by objects from our museum collection, you’ll create your own unique puppet using recycled craft materials. All materials provided.

Summer at PK: Code Busters

Deciphering Codes and Cryptography. During this interactive workshop, grasp a brief history of secret messaging and why we use cryptography in our everyday lives. Shape Morse Code trees and build your own mini enigma coding machine.

‘Cornwall, the land you can count on’ – Storytelling with children’s author Alasdair Hoswell

PK Porthcurno are delighted to welcome Children’s Author Alasdair Hoswell for the first time this summer. Based on his children’s book ‘Cornwall, The Land You Can Count On’, this workshop is designed for families and children, focusing on Cornish traditions, language, and creativity.

For ages 5 years and up. Meet Alasdair Hoswell in our Clore Learning Space at PK.

Maximum 25 participants for this workshop.

Please note: Workshop bookings will close at 10:30am on the day of the activity. Refunds are not available for non-attendance.

Poppy PK

Poppy PK the Bus, our charming 1950s Mobile Telegraph office, will be stationed at PK this summer.

The General Post Office used this mobile telegraph office between 1956 and 1972. Known then as ‘The Mobile’, she provided fast teleprinter and facsimile links to the General Post Office’s Headquarters in Electra House (London), enabling the eagerly awaited press coverage to be conveyed quickly around the world.

Kids in Museums: The Grimwood Museum Adventure Trail

Join us this August for a brilliantly bonkers museum trail, part of the national Grimwood Museum Adventure with Kids in Museums and Simon & Schuster Children’s Books. 

Spot the inhabitants of Grimwood around the museum, elect a new mayor and design them their own campaign poster. Complete the trail and receive a sticker!
