The Future of History

The Future of History

Telegraph Museum Porthcurno is one of five heritage sites to benefit from funding in augmented and virtual reality experiences through the Coastal Communities fund.

wAVE Immersive Experiences in Museums

The wAVE project brings together the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, Cornwall Museums Partnership, and Falmouth University. Through this project, emerging digital technology is being brought together with human-centred design to create new cultural experiences.

Shared Learning

In a recent trip to Bletchley Park and the RAF Museum London, the wAVE group tried out immersive experiences that brought the D Day landings and the Dam Buster raids to life.

Using high-tech audio-visual techniques and virtual reality headsets the two experiences helped to immerse the visitor in a more emotive and multi-sensory encounter.

This technique helps to connect the visitor to the feelings and emotional impact of the story and creates more of a spectacle event around the pre-existing exhibitions and traditional interpretation.

Immersion at the Telegraph Museum Porthcurno

Currently, the museum is working on several digital projects in augmented reality and immersion with wAVE, Cornwall Museums Partnership and Falmouth Games Academy. These projects are redefining how the museum communicates the stories of global communication and the history of telegraphy.
