To mark our 150th anniversary PK Porthcurno commissioned Warren Elsmore, world-famous artist in LEGO bricks, to design and build a bespoke reimagining of the first telegraph cable landing in June 1870 on Porthcurno beach by the Cableship Investigator. This moment in time has been captured perfectly in LEGO, from the ship model to the LEGO characters on the beach pulling the cable ashore.

The construction of the ship and beach scene, was captured on time lapse film and can be viewed in the following YouTube video.

The Elsmore team had no instructions to work from, instead they studied the Cableship Investigator and created the model free-flow. The backdrop is a LEGO mosaic made up of thousands of LEGO pieces glued on to the back panel.

The model had to have a special case built for it, which was then transported from the Warren Elsmore Studio in Edinburgh, Scotland, all the way to Cornwall.

Warren Elsmore is an artist in LEGO bricks and a lifelong fan of LEGO who is based in Edinburgh. He has been in love with little plastic bricks since the age of four and now spends his days creating amazing LEGO models.

Exhibitions of Warren’s models tour museums and galleries throughout Europe, entertaining hundreds of thousands of people.

We are thrilled to have one of his models commissioned to help interpret the story of that first cable landing in Porthcurno that signified a change in not only world communications, but a change in the local community and landscape.
